Type Locality and Naming
Along the Sappen well, Ziaetdin Mountains. I.A. Pyanova et al., 1986 (371, p. 61). Stratotype in the Sappen well region. The stratigraphic name is not recommended for use.
Synonym: Sappen Suite, Сапенская св.
Lithology and Thickness
Alternating sericite-clayey, siliceous shales, sandstones, siltstone (aleurolites), limestones, dolomites with rare layers and lenses of conglomerates and gravelites. Up to 650-700m.
In the Ziaetdin Mountains, according to V.V. Mikhailov (1988; 460), the Sappen Fm does not have independent significance, as it includes metamorphic slates of the Katarmay Fm (?Proterozoic), limestones and dolomites of the lower-middle Devonian, and sandstones and slates of the Altyaul Fm (middle Ordovician).

Lower contact
Lower and upper boundaries are tectonic (371).

Lower and upper boundaries are tectonic (371).
Regional extent
Southern slope of the Karatau Mountains, scattered small outcrops of the southern foothills - Vaukh region, south of the Chettyk intrusion, Kairagach well region.
